More than 300 pastors, educators and church leaders from the Adventist Churches of West Central Philippines (WCPUM) and East Central Philippines (ECPUC) gathered on Sept. 24-27, 2026, at the Central Philippine Adventist College (CPAC) in Negros Occidental, Philippines, for the Bi-Union Biblical and Theological Conference.
Under the theme "Committed to Our Identity," the four-day gathering emphasized the importance of biblical faithfulness, theological understanding and the Seventh-day Adventist Church's mission in a changing world. Speakers from the General Conference, Biblical Research Institute and Adventist Church in the Southern Asia-Pacific region (SSD) encouraged participants to strengthen their understanding of Scripture and apply its teachings in their leadership and ministry.
The conference also marked a reunion following the December 2025 division of the former Central Philippine Union Conference into two administrative unions.
"This event is not just about spiritual nourishment but also a reunion after we were bifurcated into two unions last December," said Pastor Joer Barlizo, ECPUC president.
Pastor Mamerto Guingguing, WCPUM president, emphasized the importance of remaining grounded in Scripture amid changing cultural and social values.
"In a world filled with competing voices, changing philosophies, and shifting values, the Church needs leaders who are deeply grounded in the Bible, firmly rooted in sound theology, and completely committed to Christ," Guingguing said.
Throughout the conference, presentations addressed biblical interpretation, Adventist beliefs, prophetic identity and Christian discipleship. Discussions focused on equipping church leaders to communicate biblical truth clearly and guide congregations in applying their faith to everyday life.
Pastor Eldyn Toledo, WCPUM field secretary, reminded participants that biblical identity must be reflected in both personal conduct and ministry.
"Our theme, 'Committed to Our Identity,' reminds us that our identity must be rooted in Christ, grounded in Scripture, and expressed through faithful living and mission," Toledo said.
Pastor Felixian T. Felicitas, SSD field secretary, highlighted the church's understanding of its prophetic calling and responsibility to proclaim the gospel.
"The Seventh-day Adventist Church stands as a fulfillment of Bible prophecy, called by God with a clear mandate and entrusted with a distinct message for the world," Felicitas said.
Beyond theological learning, the gathering reinforced cooperation between the two unions as they continue serving their respective territories. Although their administrative structures have changed, both organizations remain united by their shared beliefs and commitment to making disciples.
The conference's emphasis on biblical identity also carries significance as the Adventist Church across SSD prepares for OneVoice27, a coordinated mission initiative aimed at mobilizing church members and ministries to share the hope of Jesus Christ and connect people with local communities of faith.
As participants returned to their respective fields, the gathering reinforced a central message: The church's mission begins with leaders who remain grounded in Scripture, demonstrate their faith through service and equip others to share the gospel.
For the two unions, the conference affirmed that while organizational responsibilities may differ, their calling remains united — to faithfully proclaim Christ and bring His message of hope to the communities they serve.
