South American Division Launches ‘Worshippers Generation’ to Train Young Church Musicians

The South American Division (SAD) of the Seventh-day Adventist Church has launched the Worshippers Generation project with the goal of engaging younger generations in worship through music. The initiative encourages local churches to form orchestras, promote instrumental learning, and train new musicians for active participation in worship.

One of the main objectives is to affirm music as a means of worship and discipleship that unites children, youth, and adults.

“We want it to be a bridge between different generations, inspiring people to work together so that others may come to know Christ through music, harmoniously proclaiming the soon return of Jesus,” said Carlos Campitelli, Music Ministry director at the SAD.

Developed by the division’s administrative headquarters, Worshippers Generation is directly linked to the strategic priorities of the Adventist Church in South America for the next five years: identity, leadership, new generations, and discipleship.

To make the project viable, a specific budget has been allocated for purchasing instruments for churches that submit proposals to establish orchestras. Financial support will be shared across several administrative levels: 50 percent from the South American Division, 25 percent from the Union, 12.5 percent from the Conference or Mission, and 12.5 percent from the local church. Funds will be used mainly to acquire instruments such as pianos, violins, flutes, trumpets, and cellos.

Selection criteria for participating churches include a detailed proposal, committed leadership, broad member involvement, a clear mission focus, and transparent financial accountability.

In addition to purchasing instruments, the project includes technical and spiritual training, music schools, concerts, and the production of educational materials. The ultimate goal is to strengthen music as an integral part of worship in every congregation.

The project was presented by Pastor Carlos Campitelli during the Seventh-day Adventist Church's Five-Year Council.

Expected outcomes include greater youth involvement, stronger congregational worship, and mission growth through music.

“We want to strengthen the biblical message also through music,” Campitelli emphasized.

During discussions at the division’s recent business meetings, several leaders voiced strong support for the initiative. Sergio Becerra, from River Plate Adventist University (Universidad Adventista del Plata) in Argentina, emphasized the importance of investing in the training of new musicians who are grounded in biblical principles and Adventist identity.

Edson Medeiros, finance director of the SAD, noted that the project represents another strategic investment in future generations and complements the Igreja Nova Para Todos (New Church for All) initiative. That program provides denominational funds for building and renovating spaces for children and teenagers and has already benefited numerous churches across eight South American countries.
