It’s All About Jesus: The Mark of Adventist Mission

On the fourth day of the Southern Asia-Pacific Division (SSD) Annual Council, delegates were reminded of the central theme that unites all of Scripture and mission—Jesus Christ. Dr. Theodore Levterov, Associate Director of the Ellen G. White Estate at the General Conference of Seventh-day Adventists, delivered an inspiring message titled “It’s All About Jesus: The Mark of Adventist Mission.”

Levterov underscored that from Genesis to Revelation, the Bible consistently points to Jesus as the foundation of faith and the heart of the Adventist message. “Everything in Scripture—every promise, prophecy, and purpose—finds its meaning in Jesus,” he shared.

Citing Philippians 2:9–11, John 3:16, and Revelation 14, Levterov highlighted the consistent biblical narrative of salvation and God’s redemptive plan. He emphasized that being “grounded in the Bible and focused on the mission” must always lead the Church back to Christ.

Reflecting on Adventist history, Levterov revisited the Great Disappointment of 1844, pointing out that great expectations can lead to great disappointments—but also to greater revelations of Jesus. “Ellen White’s first vision in December 1844 directed believers to ‘keep your eyes fixed on Jesus,’” he reminded the audience. “That vision remains the anchor of our movement.”

He also referenced Ellen White’s last letter, written on June 14, 1914, as a powerful testimony of unwavering faith in Christ. Levterov shared the story of Martha Andrea Creeper, who was baptized at 13 and began serving in the Adventist publishing work by 1899, as an example of dedication to Christ-centered service that endures through generations.

“Why must Jesus be at the center?” Levterov asked. “Because transformation is a miracle of the Spirit,” he said, quoting John 3:8, emphasizing that genuine spiritual renewal cannot happen apart from Christ.

His message resonated deeply with delegates, who expressed that the presentation rekindled their conviction that all Adventist mission, education, and outreach must begin and end with Jesus.

As the SSD Annual Council continues, leaders are encouraged to keep their eyes fixed on Christ, remembering that the mission of the Church is not about programs or strategies—but about leading people to a personal relationship with Jesus, the true center of Adventist faith and hope.
