Adventist Hospital in Medan Conducts Charity Clinic in North Sumatra

Free medical outreach serves 100 residents in rural Karo village, expanding access to basic healthcare and community wellness

A team from Adventist Hospital Medan (RSAM) conducted a charity clinic in Ajijahe Village, Tiga Panah District, Karo Regency, on April 4, 2026, providing free medical services to local residents.

Ajijahe Village, located in the highlands of Karo District, represents many rural communities in North Sumatra where access to consistent healthcare services remains a challenge. While Karo Regency has an established network of hospitals and Puskesmas (community health centers), factors such as distance, accessibility, and limited resources continue to affect the delivery of regular healthcare services. As a result, residents often rely on visiting medical teams for essential screenings and support, making outreach initiatives such as charity clinics a vital avenue for delivering care and promoting preventive health.

The outreach offered free health checkups and reading glasses, serving around 100 patients while also introducing the hospital’s services to the community. The initiative reflects the hospital’s continuing effort to extend care beyond its facilities and reach underserved populations.

Following participation in Sabbath worship services, the RSAM team continued with community health outreach. The team included doctors, nurses, accounting staff, and chaplains, working together to provide holistic care.

Medical services included screenings for uric acid, cholesterol, and blood sugar levels. Free reading glasses were also distributed to residents in need, addressing common vision concerns in the community.

A total of 100 patients received care and expressed appreciation for the services provided.

Dr. Hanna Ginting, a general practitioner who participated in the outreach, said the initiative aimed not only to share compassion through healthcare services but also to raise awareness about Adventist Hospital Medan.

She expressed hope that the outreach would have a lasting positive impact on the residents of Ajijahe Village, helping them lead healthier and more fulfilling lives.
